Making Food Fun!
March is National Nutrition Month and this year’s theme, “Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right,” focuses on “how to combine taste and nutrition to create healthy meals,” says Karen Ansel, MS, RDN, and a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
One way to up the fun of standard fare? Set up a toppings bar, recommends Ansel. Let kids choose healthy baked potato toppings like reduced-fat Greek yogurt, low-fat shredded cheddar, and salsa. Or, set out bowls of yogurt, crunchy whole grain cereal or granola, fresh berries, and sliced nuts, and kids can create their own unique granola parfait.
